RADIO PILIPILI MEDIA SELECTS AEQ IN MOMBASA 05/06/2012
RADIO PILIPILI MEDIA SELECTS AEQ TECHNOLOGY ITS NEW RADIO STUDIOS IN MOMBASA
Radio PiliPili (Radio Spicy in language Swahili) is a private general radio station of national coverage in Kenya with headquarters in Mombassa-Kenya (PiliPili FM 94.3 MSA and 92.5 MLD) and strong influence in bordering countries as Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania where the Swahili is the main language for a wide percentage of the population.
Radio PiliPili has selected AEQ technology to equip its new central radio studios in Mombassa with two complete self-control studios (one for transmission and other one for production) and one central technical room as master control for interconnection of both studios and external links to remote locations, as communications with OBvans or STL with the transmitter site.
AEQ has designed both radio studios using their last created model of digital compact radio mixer AEQ FORUM of 12faders, installed over AEQ's technical studio furniture; supply is completed with all the necessary playout machines of various formats (CD, CF, MD …), as well as the totality of microphones, GPS clocks, headphones, loudspeakers….and others necessary extra material for the correct operation in self-control format. AEQ prepared in Madrid before shipping to Kenya all the technical cabling kits associated with the project, in order to reduce installation period in Kenya and obvious associated costs.
AEQ’s FORUM is a self-contained digital audio mixing console specifically designed to meet the most rigorous demands of radio and television ON-AIR broadcasting. Its flexible design allows it to readily be adapted to any ON-AIR application. FORUM incorporates all of the features necessary for use in environments requiring: automatic monitor speaker cut-off, cough muting, faderstart, control signalling, interface signalling for automation of external equipment, external communications management, intercom, etc. Thanks to its well thought out, self-contained modular design and reduced footprint, FORUM adapts perfectly to any environment: auto-control, studio control, television production, sound production, mixed configurations, integration in large installations, etc.
Technical central control has been designed as a space where all the audio signals of the complete Radio PiliPili facilities can be controlled, and also serves as switching and interconnection point between both radio studios as well as with remote locations as OBvans, another cities studios or STL to transmitter sites. AEQ has designed this MCR using a digital audio router AEQ IMPACT model working in parallel with A/D-D/A multichannel converter AEQ CADDY model, so all the audios in whatever format (AES/EBU, SPDIF, analogical lines…) of Radio PiliPili could be controlled in this router in centralized way. Additionally several patchpanels and auxiliary audio + modulation monitors, make quite easy future tasks of maintenance and supervision.
Radio PiliPili supply is finished with a complete 30W UHF band radiolink system AEQ ARROW model to connect with the radio OBvan of the company, as well as several hand-held digital recorders AEQ PAW120 model for the journalists displaced to press conferences around the city.
To ensure a successful project final result in a very important installation like this, AEQ in collaboration with his local partner displaced a technical team to Mombassa during two weeks to take responsibility of the installation, configuration, tests and start-up phases of the complete system.
