RADIO TTU CHOOSES AEQ ARENA AND GRAND FORUM 25/07/2017
AEQ’s DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY EQUIPS THE HEART OF THIS JORDANIAN UNIVERSITY RADIO STATION
Radio TTU 91,3 is a recently created radio station with installations at the Technical University of Tafila (Jordan). It currently counts on an important audience in the area thanks to their varied programming and mainly local contents.
As the station was born recently, its managers have had the chance to develop an ambitious project using state-of-the-art technology. They have chosen AEQ ARENA digital audio mixer -using a large, 25 fader configuration as the heart of a new 100% digital ON AIR studio. Also, a second Production and backup studio has been built, based on AEQ GRAND FORUM digital mixer in its largest configuration with 20 faders.
Jordanian integration company HEAT For Engineering & Technology was entrusted with the project and has been responsible for the installation, integration and start up phases of the complete system, including the control surfaces and all the integrated equipment.
The digital audio console installed on the new ON AIR studio is an AEQ ARENA / BC 2000-D comprising a DM control surface including controls plus 5 faders, and two D10 additional surfaces, summing another 20 faders, thus making a total of 25. A centralized, redundant audio engine integrates all the input/output modules (for microphones, analog and digital players, phone hybrids, etc) as well as modular DSP processors.
The control surfaces feature a total of 25 motorized faders with up to 9 independent, dynamically assigned pages, so the console can manage up to 225 different audio signals. All the control surfaces have been installed next to each other, simplifying operation and providing optimum visibility. The central BC2000-D audio engine has been located within the station’s equipment room together with the rest of IP devices of the installation, isolating the area of production from electronics and noise generated by cooling fans.
The GRAND FORUM 20 digital audio console has been installed in the Production and Backup playout studio. It is a mixing console including all the studios required features: automatic monitor muting, cough cut, fader start, signaling control, signals for external device automation, management of external communications, intercom, etc.
Its modular design and small size make it perfectly suited to different scenarios: self-control, control-studio, TV production controls, sound production, mixed configurations, integrated in large installations, etc.
The most user-valued features are: monitoring of any signal in the system, possibility of routing up to 4 signals from each channel using a shortcut key, two high-precision VU-meters, equalization and dynamics processing for each signal and control using GPI / GPO.
The “Screen” option has been installed in both consoles. It provides a wide selection of VU-meters to an external display, together with the most relevant control elements. This facilitates the supervision of the broadcast sound production and making operation more agile, especially in what relates to equalization and dynamics processing.
