RAK MEDIA RADIO DIGITIZES THEIR NEW STUDIOS

The complete project includes mixing consoles, multi-conference systems and a digital radio link and has been delivered as a turnkey project by AEQ

Ras al-Khaimah emirate is one of the seven emirates inside United Arab Emirates close to Oman border, at the North of the Arabic peninsula. It has around 250.000 inhabitants and the city is divided into two main areas by a stream in Old Ras el Khaimah and the New Nakheel.

RAK Media is the public broadcasting organization. They decided to modernize their radio broadcasting studios and, after a long search, RAK Media finally trusted AEQ technology to full equip this project.

The main technical requirement was to make use of IP technology to flexibly connect the different equipments and systems in the studios. AEQ created an IP network where both studios’ mixing consoles were connected, together with an input/output interface for the Central Control’s equipment rack. This basic infrastructure allows easy future expansions as RAK Media could need.

It was also important for RAK radio managers the system reliability and that the provided use and maintenance training was going to remain useful for many trouble-free duty years. That’s why it was ordered to AEQ, a manufacturer that attends this kind of requests exceptionally.

The complete deployed system includes AEQ FORUM digital mixing consoles, AEQ Phoenix IP audiocodecs, IP links for the transmitter centers and the complete VoIP multi-conference platform AEQ SYSTEL-IP in order to provide IP telephony and IP communications service to the whole facilities, both for incoming and outgoing calls.

AEQ FORUM IP is a professional audio mixing console that incorporates all of the features necessary for use in environments like this, requiring automatic monitor speaker cut-off, cough muting, fader start, control signaling, interface signaling for automation of external equipment, external communications management, intercom, etc. Other options are available with 4, 8, 12, 16 and 20 faders, providing great usage versatility in the most varied projects and environments.

AEQ SYSTEL IP is a “call-in” system with multi-conference capability that drastically reduces the costs associated to this type of communications. It significantly improves audio quality and increases operating flexibility and integration with already existing telephone systems at the station or company. The investment required is very small and will be quickly paid-off through simple cost savings. SYSTEL IP allows for the connection of the broadcast telephone system to the current corporate, IP-based PBXs, voiding the maintenance of conventional lines exclusively for broadcast.

AEQ completed the delivery with all the necessary additional equipment to build totally-operative studios, such as microphones, headphones, distributors, high-quality patch-panels, players for the most different formats, clock systems and even ON AIR signaling.

“The installation is operative, our staff has been training and, so far, we are very satisfied”, Berné Gonsalves, Technical Manager, expressed to us.
